FAQs
-
The proposals have several benefits both to local people and the environment we all share.
Moving away from a membership system means that the new sports and leisure facilities will be fully inclusive rather than exclusive.
Our investment into the club will also lead to more employment opportunities in the area.
-
Experienced and qualified ecologists will oversee the works, guided by extensive new ecology reports. Works will be carefully coordinated and zoned to limit disturbance, and any site lights will be directed downwards to limit light pollution.
The result will be a more natural environment incorporating and supporting native species.
-
A construction management plan which will be agreed with the Highways Authority will cover a number of areas. These are likely to include ensuring that:
Construction vehicles leaving the site will be checked and will have their wheels cleaned if necessary.
The driveway will be regularly swept to reduce the risk of dirt and debris getting on to the road.
Construction traffic is limited to normal waking hours, and will not be permitted on Saturday afternoons, Sundays and bank holidays.

We see 12-hole golf as a major part of the future of the game. It will encourage more people to take up the sport, as many people have less free time to play the 18-hole game. We believe 12 holes is the future of golf as it is more accessible, challenging and fun for golfers of all ages and abilities. The course will be two loops of six holes, so players wishing to play 18 holes can play 12 holes and then repeat one of the two loops.
-
Due to the limitations of the course boundary, there is not enough room to keep the 18-hole course and make all the other improvements required to give the course a sustainable future.
You have all seen how the club has struggled in recent years and we need to make changes now to give the club a viable and sustainable long-term future.
That includes some land currently used for golf being repurposed, for new facilities and to help improve the natural environment.
Additionally, our course architect Tom Mackenzie truly believes Teign Valley is perfectly suited for 12 holes and has been particularly excited to work on the course.
-
In early April all existing members will be offered a six-month membership renewal from 1 May 2024 to 31 October 2024.
The six-month membership will be priced at 50% of the 2023/24 annual dues, reflecting no inflationary cost increase and including the key playing months of the year.
For example, the current Full Membership is priced at £760. The 6-month renewal will be £380.
-
Subject to approval, work will start in 2025.
-
Due to the extent of the improvements, there will be disruption over many holes with noise of works and machinery, it would be dangerous to allow golfers partial access and will ultimately slow up works.
-
We’re committed to continuing the great tradition of competitions at Teign Valley, including inter-venue competitions. We’ll also run competitions on an APP basis, so there is no requirement to turn up and join the competition at a specific time. You can play anytime on the day of the competition and log your score. The competition results will then be available the next day. This is a more flexible playing approach which is in line with England Golf requirements.
-
Teign Valley members will be invited to be the first people to play and try out the new course, free of charge, when it opens in 2026.
-
Although not a formal membership club, we will be offering an option to purchase an annual pass to join Teign Valley, on a flexible play basis not a fixed membership fee, including at a preferential rate for past members. We believe that this will give golfers an opportunity to save money on monthly fees and enable them to only pay when they have time to play, while simultaneously providing more facilities than currently available and making Teign Valley a valuable community asset.

Padel tennis is supported in Britain by the Lawn Tennis Association – the people who bring us Wimbledon every year – and is one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
There are now more than 350 padel courts in the country, with a new professional tour emerging.
Effectively it is a cross between tennis and squash. It’s usually played in doubles in an enclosed court where the ball can bounce off the walls. Winning relies on strategy rather than simply strength, and it’s very easy to learn. It’s an ideal game for men, women and youngsters to play together.
Pickleball, like padel tennis, is supported in Britain by the Lawn Tennis Association. It combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, into a game for people of all ages.
The court is the same size as a badminton court, with a shorter tennis-style net.
The game is easy to learn, fun to play and is a great way to exercise – you can easily burn 300 calories in half an hour!

Quite the opposite. We are, quite rightly, limited to the amount of work we can do as the course sits within the Dartmoor National Park. We will be working with the park authority to ensure our proposals sit harmoniously within the landscape.
-
A significant amount of investment is needed to make Teign Valley a viable operation. We firmly believe that our proposals represent the best chance of this being a success.
-
Quite the opposite. This area will undergo significant renaturing. Please refer to our ecology page for more information.
-
Our course designer, Tom Mackenzie, looked at all options, with a focus on safety and experience. His conclusion was that inserting a par 5 into the plans would reduce the overall quality of the course.

The club currently employs 12 people. Once the work has been completed and we reopen, Teign Valley will employ between 50 and 70 people.
